Forsyth MO Homes For Sale

Known as the Gateway to Ozark lakes and trails, Forsyth, MO, sits on the shores of Lake Taneycomo and Bull Shoals Lake.

Located in Taney County, the city's 2,400 residents find it a fun place to call home.

The City's Colorful History

Originally situated on the shores of the White river, Forsyth became an important river town in the early 1800s. During this time, steamboats left supplies at the town's docks and they were transferred to smaller boats or wagons for distribution around the area.

Forsyth became the county seat in 1838, and this led to the building of the first county courthouse where Swan Creek and White river met. In 1855, builders constructed a new courthouse on the same site.

During the Civil War, Forsyth was in Rebel hands until Union forces shelled the town and damaged the courthouse in 1861. The Union forces left two years later, burning the town in their wake instead of letting it fall into Rebel control once again.

In 1950, the entire city relocated to the bluffs overlooking the river because Bull Shoals Lake flooded the area. The new location is where the city still stands today.
